Inauguration of the new ‘Cité du Vin’ (wine centre) by the President of France, which will be the scene of a die-in demonstration – a lie-in with a slight difference – in protest at the excessive use of pesticides on the vines in the Bordeaux region. This is one of the worst affected areas of France in terms of pesticide pollution. It’s to raise awareness of the issue in the lead-up to the EU debate and decision on the use of glyphosates on June 6th.
This initiative, backed by several environmental and health groups, is a petition to raise at least a million signatures before the end of 2017, to influence the EU’s decision on whether or not to ban glyphosate completely. The extension has been temporarily halted and the aim is to have it banned altogether – by making the decision makers listen to the people!

At the invitation of George Soros and his Open Society Foundations, architect Frank Gehry arranged two ‘masters’ studios, one in SCI-Arc in Los Angeles, the other at the Yale School of Architecture, to investigate prison design as a subject for the best architecture students in the US. Partnering with Susan Burton of A New Way of Life Re-Entry Project in
Watts, Gehry and his students explored all aspects of prison design, learning first hand the design flaws of prison living from women who have been incarcerated in America’s worst prisons and visiting what are considered to be the world’s most successful prisons, in Norway.

Survivors Guide to Prison
Follows the stories of two innocent men, Bruce Lisker and Reggie Cole, who spent decades behind bars for murders they did not commit. With gripping testimony from formerly incarcerated people, guards, cops, lawyers and reformers, “Survivors Guide” exposes the failed “punishment model” and examines the programs proven to work.
In cooperation with the WE-Energime-Global Cooperation Turtle Island International Civil Society Organization and in support of peaceful interfaith dialogue, especially in light of Laudato Si, the recent message from Pope Francis on “Care for Mother Earth”, Drawdown Markham will be assisting Global Cooperation Day (GCD, New Zealand) to Celebrate the 800 year Anniversary (in 2019) of the meeting between Saint Francis of Assisi and Sultan Al Kamil in the year 1219 by planting a *Commemorative Tree of Peace* on a property in the East end of Markham (Locust Hill) on Sunday, September 15th.
This event is being done in support of the DD Markham CCAH Collaborative Exchange Project (CEP) and the “Spark for Humanity” project by We Are Mother Earth! (WAME) and GTI Enterprises (cooperative corporation), and for the eventual establishment of our “Go Local” Campaign for community resilience and adaptation, supported by our local Drawdown Markham Interfaith Neighborhood and Business Collaborative (which is part of the EncounterCanada collaborative, which is intended “to localize the Sustainable Development Goals to build ‘Climate Smart’ safe and sustainable communities and cities, pursuant to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction”).
Come celebrate A Better World with Mitchell Rabin’s 26th Anniversary of alternative media on the air, with a Swami Beyondananda performance fun-raiser for A Better World, who has been a friend & supporter of ABW for decades. Swami will give a comedy performance followed by a dialogue between Mitchell & Steve about how to creatively create a better world. Your presence is desired.
